Helen Adams Realty has hired Julia Bumgarner as the new Broker-in-Charge at the Lake Norman office. Bumgarner joins the firm with over 15 years of experience in real estate in the Lake Norman market.
We are thrilled to welcome Julia Bumgarner as the newest Broker-in-Charge on our team. Licensed since 2005, she brings years of experience as a top producer, productivity coach and Broker-in-Charge to our firm. Bumgarner grew up in Charlotte before moving to the Lake Norman area in 1994 and has seen Charlotte grow firsthand into the metropolis that it is today.
“Julia’s solid roots in the Lake Norman community will bring a high level of local knowledge to our Lake Norman office,” says Cara Shields, Broker-in-Charge at our Randolph Rd. office. “She knows the market extremely well which provides a level of expertise that those agents can lean on for advice and guidance.”

Transitioning from his current role as Broker-in-Charge at our Lake Norman office, Mike Thornburg will now be the company’s Talent Development Coach, assisting new agents at the firm as they launch their careers.
“Julia’s years of brokerage as well as management experience will be an asset to the firm and office,” says Thornburg. “The Lake Norman office has enjoyed a track record of increasing revenue for the past five years culminating with a record $90mm in sales volume for the 2020 year. I'm confident Julia will continue this trend and take the office to new highs in the coming years.”
Thornburg joined Helen Adams Realty as a Broker-in-Charge in 2015 after over 40 years in the real estate industry in various marketplaces around the country. His extensive career in housing sales and development has prepared him for this new chapter as Talent Development Coach, training agents on the detailed transactional processes while they start their careers at Helen Adams Realty.
“I have long enjoyed working with new agents just entering the business from the standpoint of training and coaching,” says Thornburg of his new position. “Nothing makes me more proud than to see a beginner close their first transaction and many more that inevitably follow. This new role will provide one-one-one counsel for new agents and help them ‘jump-start’ their careers. For the ownership of Helen Adams Realty to allocate resources to this process is a remarkable differentiator among the crowded real estate agent market.”
“New agents need someone in their corner to help them, not only to help hold them accountable but to help them discover how what they’ve learned in training can be best implemented into their own systems,” says Kerry Doub, Broker-in-Charge at Ballantyne Office. “Having Mike as their coach will be the extra layer of support that they need as they are starting their business.”

Mike Thornburg, Talent Development Coach
When agents join Helen Adams Realty, they attend a basic training course that covers a wide range of industry-related topics including contracts and closings, both the seller and buyer processes, pricing strategies and negotiations, marketing and website platforms, home search technology, and more. These classes are taught by the firm’s management team and in-house staff experts, further solidifying the company’s collaborative culture. In addition, new agents meet weekly with their Broker-in-Charge and have scheduled meetings with the marketing staff over the course of their first year in the business. Layering on the Talent Development Coach role furthers the firm’s commitment to train successful real estate advisors in the Charlotte area.
“We put our agents first so that they can put their clients first,” said Jeff Adams, President of the firm. “Providing hands on training for both new and experienced agents on various industry topics ensures that our agents stay a cut above the rest and are able to provide the highest level of service to their clients. Agent engagement and training are paramount to ensuring our agents are positioned as trusted advisors in their communities.”
